-Buyer's Review-
When I tried to stock up on this album "Beyond Traits" when it was released in 2018, I decided to put it off because I had quite a few other titles to stock up on.
The next month, I asked Dezi-Belle Records to stock it, but they had already sold out, so I could only pester the label to please reissue it.
Thankfully, about a year later, the album was reissued (I guess there were many other requests for reissue from other parties).
Black Bear Basement, who produced this album "Beyond Traits", is an instrumental hip hop producer team based in Hannover and Berlin, Germany.
The following members are in charge of keyboards, vibraphone, saxophone, and turntables respectively.
Turntables (DJ): Jian Baker (Sotah)
Keyboard: Leon Pock (Beatmensch 5000)
Saxophone: Phillip Dornbusch
Vibraphone: René Kretschmer (Riez)
This album was produced by Leon Pock (Beatmensch 5000) & René Kretschmer (Riez), mixed by Beatmensch 5000 and plusma, and mastered by B-Side.
The band's own style is on full display, and you can enjoy the dynamism of the sound created by each individual performance.
If I had to categorize this album, I'd say it's Jazz Bap / Lo-fi Boom Bap, but rather than earthy boom bap, it's more like instrumental hip-hop that feels moist and invigorating after the rain.
The album has a fast-paced feel to it, and it's a great album that's over in a flash.
Listening to the album again, I was reminded of the intricate interplay between each member.
This album will be enjoyed by those who like 90's Boom Bap Hip Hop, Jazzy Hip Hop, and Lo-Fi Hip Hop which has been gaining momentum in recent years.
This album will be used for BGM in stores, and will also be useful for various events regardless of genre.
You can see the members' lustrous, expressive, and above all, fun performance in the PV, so please check it out as well.
Enjoy!
